Sled Safe!

December 2024

Hey kids! Sledding and tobogganing are some of the best ways to enjoy winter, but it’s super important to stay safe while you’re zipping down those snowy hills. Here are some simple tips to pick a safe hill to sled on, and to make sure you have the best—and safest—day ever!

  • Avoid hills that have bumps, rocks, or trees. You don’t want anything getting in the way of your ride.
  • Keep away from roads and water. Hills near streets or ponds can be dangerous.
  • Find space to stop. Make sure there’s plenty of room at the bottom to slow down.
  • Not too crowded. If the hill is packed with sledders, wait until it’s less busy to avoid crashes

Always go with an adult who can watch you while you sled. After you finish a run, get up quickly and move out of the way so other sledders don’t bump into you. And don’t sled at night—it’s too hard to see where you’re going!

Stay warm and stay safe !
